The horror genre is not necessarily made for all gamers in mind. Featuring elements that are too disturbing and grotesque even for a mature audience, horror games offer a kind of play style which is cherrypicked for the thrill-seekers. But when you think that this genre is becoming too banal with the overuse of similar ideas for the scare, there comes a title here and there that truly makes gamers be shaken to their core due to sheer terror. Here are a few horror games that are too scary, you will think twice about playing them. As a fair warning, these games are not for the faint of heart. P.T. (Playable Teaser) So, this particular game may already officially a canceled title as a result of the spat between supposed director to the game Hideo Kojima and his employing company of several years, Konami. But P.T. or Playable Teaser to the developing title, Silent Hills, makes one hell of a demo which was supposedly being developed for the current generation hardware. Designed in a way that makes the game infinitely playable, it is technically an endless run across an environment of pure horror which only gets significantly worse per every successful loop. If you had ever encountered a video of the demo being played on YouTube and was so scared that you almost pee in your pants, the experience is a lot worse when you are actually playing it. Outlast What’s scary about playing a horror video game title featuring malevolent creatures which words could not describe? Playing a horror game with a defenseless journalist as a protagonist, that is. Outlast is one such game and, essentially, what makes it very scary for first-time players. With only a night-vision camera to call as his tool, this is a game about evading monstrous creatures and praying to survive all the horrors to come. Resident Evil 7 The most recent entry to the Resident Evil franchise was a stray too many things it was known for. In favor of the first-person view over the traditional third-person gameplay, playing as the protagonist with Resident Evil 7 feels truly like an actual experience. But, while playing the game with a controller already makes the game scary, wait ‘til you experienced playing the game with a VR headset which pits you in an “actual experience” feel as the protagonist of the game. True to the franchise’s trademark gameplay, this game is one to feature weapons against the zombified enemies. Despite that, however, it does not necessarily make the game easier nor less scary, even with an in-game gun in hand. Slender: The Eight Pages Ever felt the experience of being stalked which gives you a sudden eerie feeling about something or someone? If not, playing the Slender: The Eight Pages will make you feel such, only a lot worse. Inspired after the internet folklore involving a thin, humanoid figure of long arms and without a face—hence the name, Slender—this game is about finding 8 scattered manuscripts with the goal of unraveling the mystery of this creepy figure. But the gameplay is not as simple as making you find pages of papers under broad daylight and in open, easily navigable space. To the contrary, the gameplay is set in the pitch dark of the night within a forest where your only tool for solving the mystery is a flashlight. The scary part? You are not necessarily alone in the process and which unravels to be the case the closer you are into finding the missing pages. To actually be placed in a condition which is ominous of Slender’s presence is perhaps the climax to this horror game and is something you are most likely to encounter in every session with it.
